East Wing Rules: White House Poetry Slam or Jam?

East Wing Rules: White House Poetry Slam or Jam?

It is wonderful that this President has invited the poets, but what about the poets, not those who talk so fast you cant understand them, Im a poet and Obama has one of my pieces I wrote for him, yet no regular Poets, Im not saying they dont have any thing to say they do, but slams arent for everyone Patricia Robinson

They’re trying to silence me
Their trying to take my words away-because some don’t wish to hear, what I have to say.
My words come with truth-and life! is the proof.
I speak of man black and white-I speak of how they shine bright.
Yet some one wants to keep me from being heard-I will not let anyone stop my words.
I tell of abuse , anger and pain-my words flow like rain.
Still they’re those who want to put out my light-stop me from helping me fight.
I tell of children who bully others-as they chock the weak, as if to smother.
All because those who should see turns their heads-until some weak child hang themselves until dead.
I speak of that perfect looking home across the street-that seems so wonderful on the outside to me.
No one knows what goes on behind closed doors-only she knows, when at night he knocks her to the floor.
I speak of what an abused child goes through-see I use to be one! too.
I speak of mothers who prostitute their young-and doing it, only takes a flip of the tongue.
I speak of fathers who rape their daughters at night-slipping into their rooms causing them pain and fright.
I speak of brothers who hurt brothers-being sneaky, so they wont be seen by their mothers.
Still their some in this society-that are trying to silence me.
They say they don’t need to hear what I have to say-think about it, it could be your child one day.
It could be your husband taking liberties who his 9 yr. old-it could be your daughter or son hiding the truth within their soul.
It could be your life in confusion each day-yet some would allow the poets words to be taken away.
Because they cant stand the truth-as they come to the realization that there lives are the proof.
All poetry is written for someone-written for that silent girl, or abused son.
Words are here for a lifetime-they are here to excite the soul the mind.
Yet! There are some in this society-that are trying to silence me.

We bare some of the blame

We bare some of the blame
I understand what my forefathers went through, I was there in the 60s, born 1947, a twin in a family of 8 children in Wash. DC on a st. in the poorest part of DC. We had an out house 805 Rst. NW, in our nations capital. The lady next door had indoor plumbing, because she choose to sell alcohol out of her home, Mrs. Van. She was well known all over that area and they came from all over to buy her wares. Again we lived in a house with a well like fixture in the kitchen there was no hot water heater. We had a large tub that Mom would place 2 of us at a time and then change the water, a rough life for her. They say we had no other recourse, but to do these things, then why did Mrs. Van have a choice not to live like us and didn’t. We have always had a choice we just didn’t have the back bone to do anything about it. Im not saying I’m any different than anyone else, but we do have choices. Today we have even more. So when you speak of so many black men being in prison, I say it was a choice to rob that bank, to kill, to sell drugs, or not to. I’m a ex-offender, drug addict, homeless person ex to all of them. I don’t understand this about offenders weather it be women or men. Each Sunday they show a certain prison on MSNBC. We watch these men and women with this I had to attitude, but in most situations its an act . I was one of those in prison, and if you don’t take the time to examine your actions in prison, where will you get the time. I call it standing still. Something God does for everyone he stand us, or at lease tries to stand us still, we are the busy ones. I was to busy when I went into prison the first time, but by the second time I was ready for help from someone. When that judge told me 5 yrs. And then paused for a moment to let the 5 yrs. Penetrate my soul. Then he said, but Im going to give you a chance this time and give you 3 yrs.. That was also hard, and as he was saying 3 yrs. I was still digesting 5yrs.. I told the judge he wouldn’t see me again. He laughed alright Mrs. Robinson for your sake I hope so. To me the 5yrs. Took me 10 yrs. Into the future and in seconds Id made up my mind. Today I give the officers, and judge for seeing my future and wanting to help me.
Believe me we as offenders we bare some of the responsibly for our today’s, because there are a lot of things around us showing us the way, but we choose to go the wrong way, and enjoy it until we are caught. Once we are caught, then it’s the white man that did it, for me the only ones that came besides my family were white. To me we as blacks hold our selves back by not seeing, or wanting to see that help comes in all colors of skin. do you really think God wouldn’t have something out there for us to reach for, I know it was plenty around me and I cant blame the white man for the fact that first time I was weak enough to try the drugs and I continued to use, and to put it even more exact no white man sold me the drug, no white man held my arm and pushed the drug in me, it was a black man, what about those blacks that sell it to us, they know right from wrong and they still do. Our own people see our difficulty and they prey on our weakness, its as if we don’t see that black man who deals it, we only see the white man in another country. Dark skin people cut it from the plants, bag it, ship it, all of these dark skin people handling the drug for these few white people, come on some where a long the way some one should of come to they’re senses, but it was a choice made to do what it took to bring these drugs to the US,
Have we all forgotten what the word no means, have we forgotten how to care for our fellow man, but when we get into trouble all the knowledge we should have known seconds ago somehow is remembered after the fact, we cry out please help me seconds after we are caught when in reality God had been trying to reach to you for quite some time but we refuse to listen. We bare some of the blame…

Jumping the gun

Jumping the Gun
NY, police fire 50 bullets kills one ( Sean Bell)
I wasn’t there and don’t know what happened that day-but everything in my being says they should have been another way.
They should of backed off prevented them to leave-instead they fired 50 shots, now they want society to believe.
Believe that it took 50 bullets to bring down 3 men-instead of taking time talking trying to persuade them.
They say it’s a terrible thing to fall through the crack-its even worse when all a police see’s is black.
When they don’t see the working man, the good Christian brother-all they see is our skin color.
Their hate covers up the human side of the dark skin man-it doesn’t matter how far we’ve come, there’s always cracks where we stand.
Always a bunch of might’s, maybe’s, and should-as we struggle to show our positive, our good.
Nothing is ever enough to those who hate the black man-we can be presidents, lawyers, Still to some we will never stand.
I’m not saying all police are the same-but that few put a foul taste in the game.
They make all police look bad in others peoples eye’s-as those that supposedly look like criminals innocently die.
I d like to know what you have to do not to look like a criminal today-now that’s a laugh Id say.
Like serial killer Dennis Rader, or Ted Bundy-good looking men killing innocent people in this society.
No one would ever believe they killed anyone-but put 3 black men together police assume they have a gun.
All black people are not criminals-they have intentions, they have goals.
Like I said if it wasn’t for a police I wouldn’t be here today-all because he saw something other than what I was doing that day.
He saw me years from that time-and beat it into my mind.
He told me I could be some one-see he took the time and didn’t jump the gun.. By; Patricia Robinson-2/26/08-5:30am

Me doing poetry

I am a Poet that has to share what God has given me and still do, I love what I do and how it effects others as well, I live in SC and Im a christian that triees to bring as many sinner in to church as possible because I know what it was to be out in the cold

Separating of the Soul
I’m sitting in Mc Donald here in N. M. Beach--enjoying the solitude because no one cares to speak..
I sit on the empty side as people walk in--they separate from me do you think its the color of my skin..
Warm interesting places can turn so cold--as some people feel the need for a separation of the soul..
They don’t speak or look at me--its as if I’m casting a disease on society..
But I’m not going to let anyone take my joy away--I’m going To be proud of who I’ve evolved into today..
I’m going to sit silent, joyous, and with cheer--I’m not going to let they’re soul separation, with me, interfere..
I live in the realization that I’m just as they are--I’m also Gods bright and shinning star..
I’m not going to let anyone take this unconditional love Gods given me--because of his love I’m able to look pass theyre skin and see..
As I walk out, I’m going to speak erase some of the fears--because God says I also belong here..
I’m going to smile, grin as the story unfolds--let them know it time to stop this separation of the souls..
